If the user is a member of portage he can do any emerge operation as
long as the command includes --pretend or -p

You don't have a choice. With ufraw you are going to get gtk+.
Unless he keywords ufraw-0.16:
RDEPEND

I need to use ufraw, because it can read some *.raw files that dcraw
can't read. I had to unmask ufraw because it's ~x86. ufraw also needs
a ~x86 version of libexif. Things work OK, but emerge wants to return
to the latest stable version, which is *NOT* what I want, as it'll
probably break

outputs of my workflow which I don't yet see how to cover.
Slightly offtopic: I'd love to be able to set up a color profile for

I am new to Gentoo (not new to Linux), and am trying to do a Gentoo
install to handle my photo needs. I have emerged cinepaint, gimp,
hugin, KPhotoAlbum, Krita and ufraw (for starters).
Things work pretty well EXCEPT that the KDE based applications cannot
handle *.tif files. I have

I hope that helps.
