Hi,
may be this is a RDQ(tm) (real dumb question), but
Is it possible to connect rosegarden and ZynAddSubFX
without using jack ???
Thank you very much for any help in advance!

Hi,
I am currently experimenting with ZynAddSubFX.
This synth has a virtual keyboard, which is accessible
via clicks of the mouse and via the keyboard of my computer.
When tuning parameters of the synth it is often of help to
hear, what the current parameter does with the sound.
All parameters

And '86%' (freezing point) is far after zynaddsubfx ebuild parsing (at 54%).
Where to dig in?
Something python-related?
Temporary workaround
Hi,
I have a problem with my midi setup, which mainly
consists of the following parts:
jackd
zynaddsubfx with a "jack aware" midi in and out
QJackCtrl
Qxygene 61 midi keyboard
(every software s up to date)
Normally I do as follows:
Switch on the Oxygene 61 keyboard
start QJack

Hi,
I want to setup the following things:
An midi keyboard called "Oxygene61"
(no, it was'nt previously owned by Mister Jarre...),
jackd/alsa (qjackctrl) and ZynAddSubFX.
The problem is: The keyboard shows up under
the "ALSA"-Tab of qjackctrl and it is alone there
with &
Zynaddsubfx.
That's what I was thinking :)
A midi step sequencer (not sure if this this correct terminus
technicus, though) were also fine...
Any ideas?
I think, aconnect (part of media-sound/alsa-utils) is the tool you want to
try.
Start both rosegarden and zynaddsubfx, then use aconnect
Hi Michael,
Thank you for your help ! :)
Here are the versions:
media-sound/rosegarden 11.02
media-sound/zynaddsubfx 2.4.1
media-sound/jack-audio-connection-kit 0.118.0
I did a aconnect -lio, which says:
client 0: 'System' [type=kernel]
0 'Timer '
1 'Announce
in the sense of keyboards, external
synths and such.
What I want is to set up a melody in rosegarden and to play
it via Zynaddsubfx.

Hi Michael,
I will try (again) to be a friend of Jack (NOT Daniels ;) )...
What I dont understand: Why all this hassle with Jack if Rosegarden
has the ability to connect directly to Zynaddsubfx without any
other gadget (see Studio-Manage Midi Devices, start Zynaddsubfx

As Michael mentions (in his reply to this mail), it works for him so it
should work for you unless your configs (kernel + possible USE flags).

Despite the fact, that the Oxygene 61 is connected under the
Midi-tab (alsa_midi) to Zynaddsubfx and the channels are correctly
set...Zyn does not react.

Hi,
I setup a jack/pulseaudio combo as described here:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/17/html/Musicians_Guide/sect-Musicians_Guide-Integrating_PulseAudio_with_JACK.html
Now I can uses kaffeine, ZynAddSubFX, and HTML5 players (which insist
on pulseaudio as it seems) without hiss
NING! I am no native english speaker! :)
Thank you very much for you interest in this problem.
I tried to compile the beast outside but regardless what I
was doing, it bests configure insists of not seeing libpng,
which definitely ist installed on my system.
Since you ar intested in the program (or: in this kind of programs?)
you may also take a look at zynaddsubfx...
Keep hacking! :)

Thanks, I'll check that out too. At least that one is in portage already.

Hi Jigme,
...found a workaround:
Source:
http://www.jackaudio.org/faq/pulseaudio_and_jack.html
Start QJackctl and click "Setup".
There is an entry titled "Serfer Prefix" which shows
"jackd" normally. Replace this one with "pasuspender -- jackd".
This will disable Pulseaudio while using jackd.
This enables a good sound from ZynAddSubFX again ... but
is does not enables the possibility to watch TV (DVBT) and/or
YouTube while playing with the Softsynth... ;)
Cheers,
