LEAD STORY

LOTUS EXPECTED TO MAKE DEVELOPER ANNOUNCEMENTS AT SHOW | eWEEK

At Lotusphere, expect details on two code-named initiatives. Project
Montreal will add Domino classes to IBM's WebSphere Studio
Application Developer tool kit, allowing non-Domino developers to
create collaborative applications as Web services. Project Seoul will
let developers work within Domino to output code as J2EE components
that can be embedded in non-Domino J2EE-based apps.

SPAM-WEARY ADMINS CAN'T WAIT FOR EXCHANGE 2003 | SearchWin2000.com
Microsoft has said the forthcoming Exchange 2003 will be a better
spam killer, but many spam-stuffed Windows admins need relief now.
They're turning to third-party products to lessen the growing load of
annoying, unwanted and potentially hazardous e-mails.

SPAM FILTERS A HIT WITH HACKERS, NOT ENTERPRISE IT | SearchCIO
Enterprise IT is enlisting an unlikely ally in its fight against
e-mail spam: computer hackers. The notorious John Draper, aka "Cap'n
Crunch," was among those who joined researchers and IT professionals
at a conference at MIT to debate the merits of anti-spam techniques
such as blacklists and Bayesian filters.

LOTUS REVENUE REMAINS FLAT IN Q4 | e-Pro Magazine
In its fourth quarter IBM saw flat software revenues, despite gains
from WebSphere and DB2. Lotus showed no growth in Q4 and a 5% drop
for the year.

THE MISSING LINK | No Segways on the streets of San Francisco

The inventor of the Segway Human Transporter claims the upright
scooter could change civilization as we know it. Well, San Francisco
likes its civilization the way it is. The city of streetcars and
sourdough, a place you could see mandating scooter usage, has said
"no way" to Segway and has banned it from sidewalks. Environmental
friendliness wasn't enough for Segway to sway the Bay Area. San
Fran's city leaders thought it would be too fast and too heavy to be
safe on the pedestrian-packed sidewalks. They told Segway and its
well-paid team of lobbyists to scoot. Nearby Oakland is considering a
ban too.
