Well, San Francisco likes its civilization the way it is. The city of streetcars and sourdough, a place you could see mandating scooter usage, has said "no way" to Segway and has banned it from sidewalks. Environmental friendliness wasn't enough for Segway to sway the Bay Area. San Fran's city leaders thought it would be too fast and too heavy to be safe on the pedestrian-packed sidewalks. They told Segway and its well-paid team of lobbyists to scoot. Nearby Oakland is considering a ban too.
