You have tell Windows machines about the DNS
server IP.
It is in 'network configuration' section of
windows.
If you use DHCP, you can declare the DNS
server IP in the DHCP
configuration and the Windows clients get the DNS
server info along with the
client IP.
So is the case with gateway, if you want to go
outside your LAN.
If you use Win95/98, type in 'winipcfg' at the
C:\> and see what it says.
