The problem occurs since Java JDK 1.4.2_05. I have the same problem in my environment upgrading from WebSphere 5.1.0 to 5.1.1., where the FunctionTable class is part of the xml.jar. The Declaration of field m_function in class functionTable has changed from public to private. This causes the error when class Init tries to access the field with for(int i = 0; i < FunctionTable.m_functions.length; i++) { FuncLoader funcloader = FunctionTable.m_functions[i]; .... The question is how to solve the problem, e.g. by adding a get-Method for the field m_functions in the functionTable class.
