Over the past several years IBM has made a significant investment in the
open source project SIS, primarily as part of the OSCAR open source HPC
project. Since the major distributors of Linux have decided not to include
this install mechanism in their products, and the interest in this install
mechanism has waned within IBM, the LTC (Linux Technology Center) has
decided to not fund this project in 2004.

In light of this development, we have been seeking candidates to take over
the role of maintainer for SytemConfigurator and SystemInstaller. The good
news is that Dann Frazier, has agreed to serve as the new maintainer of
SystemConfigurator, and Michael Chase-Salerno has agreed to take over the
role of maintainer for SystemInstaller. They have generously agreed to take
on this responsibility on their personal time. So please take this into
consideration when you ask for their assistance.

Both Dann and Mike are long time members of the SIS community. They have
both played an active role in the development/enhancement of SIS and
continue to contribute to SIS. While Dann is new to taking on the role of
maintainer for SystemConfigurator, Mike was the previous maintainer of
SystemInstaller. We feel fortunate to put these products in such able
hands. Please extend a warm welcome to Mike and Dann.

It has been a privilege for me to work on SIS. I will truly miss the
camaraderie and the challenge.
