Currently SystemImager provides a nice monitoring/virtual console functionality via si_monitor and si_monitortk.  The virtual console is nice but at this point it is not interactive, i.e. you can only see what's going on at the console, but you cannot control it.

I have been toying with the idea of using screen with SystemImager for a while now, and after talking to Andrea I have decided to post an email to the list to solicit some feedback.

Basically the idea is that sshd will be enabled by default for SystemImager install and screen will be started in daemon mode, then the rest of the imaging scripts will be started off in the screen session so that on the image server, you can click on the node (via si_monitortk) and it will invoke a ssh shell to the client node and re-attach to the screen.

You will also need to set things up like ssh authorized keys and the like in the background.

What do you guys all think?  Any comments/suggestions?  I think if this works, it can provide a very powerful interactive shell to nodes that are being imaged, in case things go wrong...

Cheers,

Bernard
