Just as additional info since I am coming into this thread a bit late....

The DEVICES used when imaging are different then the DEVICES used once you 
reboot.  I had this issue on one of my compaq servers.  If you would liek to 
know the miscdevices I used to finally get it to work send me an email directly 
and I Will forwar dyou my master script as well as the fstab information after 
reboot.

I wrote a note about this the other day and have an update.  After 
rebuilding grub 0.95 with a bunch of debugging code, I still can't 
figure out what's wrong with it, but suffice it to say it can't see any 
devices.  Clearly there is something about the environment that SI 
leaves behind after it copies over the images and before it runs 
system-configurator OR maybe there is some additional work SC needs to do.

In any event as a last gasp I downgraded grub to 0.93, applied the cciss 
patches I had reported here a year or so and everything installed just 
fine.  For the record, these are HP DL360-G3 boxes.
