Note, I replace  the <boel devstyle="static"/> with "devfs", instead of
just adding it after ( I think the variable devstyle is just overwritten
though, but in case this makes a difference).

Seems I don't need it (see my other post today) but I would like to look
at this for a proper solution instead of my measly hack. 3.4 (a deb
package from systemimager.org) was not new enough, I didn't try to
compile 3.5.

Alien is a good idea. I should really just compile them, no? Not sure if
I have time to read the debian package maintainer's intro right now...

Also, when I upgraded, my systemimager-boot package was replaced, and
the new kernel (in the 3.4 si package) did not see the ide-scsi drives.
I didn't feel like mkbootpackage again, which I recall taking quite some
time to figure out about a year ago. Any idea why that is not included?
(Dell Optiplex systems are affected).
