Well, I've come to the conclusion that neither am I experienced enough to package .debs out of the source, nor do I have the time to expend on learning all I need to learn to get to that point. Tom Hoffman commented on my blog that it might be the most efficient use of my time to just compile from source on my clients. I have come to agree. My problem is I did not keep good documentation the first time I compiled SystemImager from source, so although I have installed all the dependency packages listed at wiki.systemimager.org/index.php/HOWTO_Install_from_sources_on_a_Debian_system I'm not sure what else I need in order to compile this. This time I want to keep good documentation, so of my trial and error technique last time which involved "Well, it sounds like installing THIS package might resolve that error. Maybe not, how about THIS one. Cool, now I get a different error" might not be the best approach. For instance, my guess at this point is that I should install gpp. However I'm simply going to sit back and ask so that I don't end up installing a bunch of useless stuff on my clients and so that I can keep a clean, simple record of how to duplicate my work. I'm assuming the packages I don't have are packages that are so obvious to someone who has experience compiling from source that it's simply assumed I would have them already before I even looked at the HOWTO, so I feel pretty dumb asking...but I will. What packages am I still missing? I get the following output when I try to ./configure: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/systemimager-3.7.6$ sudo ./configure checking for g++... no checking for c++... no checking for gpp... no checking for aCC... no checking for CC... no checking for cxx... no checking for cc++... no checking for cl... no checking for FCC... no checking for KCC... no checking for RCC... no checking for xlC_r... no checking for xlC... no checking for C++ compiler default output file name... configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables See `config.log' for more details. I _was_ able to compile SystemConfigurator-2.2.2 just fine (the only extra dependency that it asked for that wasn't covered above was libappconfig-perl)
