I don't have a firewall, and my iptables are blank. Is there some way I could test your theory? I've tried telnetting to port 6969 on my server, and a connection is created, though there is no greeting message of any kind whereas connecting to other ports gives me a "connection refused" message. This suggests to me that this isn't a connectivity issue, but then I admit to not knowing too much about it... It's so close to working I can taste it...how frustrating :-) Simón

I would check the firewall on your image server to make sure that the correct port is open. Specifically, the tracker port is defined in your /etc/systemimager/bittorrent.conf: # The bittorrent tracker port.
