I had this problem too, the solution was to pass '--flavor IMAGENAME'  
to si_mkclientnetboot on the server to grab the kernel and initrd  
produced by si_prepareclient on the GC.

Check the logs for your tftp server to see if it's sending 'standard/ 
kernel' instead of 'IMG/kernel' (among other things).
