My solution was to build a custom static kernel that had all the drivers I need 
in it.  I grabbed the latest source from kernel.org and it compiled the bnx2 
firmware into the kernel.  Probably not the best solution but it works well.

Can't answer the --no-rsync question I've never used that option.
