Our l28 node is wonky. It wasn't participating in SGE properly so I
reimaged, then discovered the problem was the wrong hostname in
/etc/sysconfig/network (and how did *that* get screwed up?).

Today I had more trouble with 'rpm', so I reimaged. rpm complained
about corrupt RPMs (which the other nodes were happy with), so I ran
si_updateclient again. Now l28 complains about 'init' respawning and
when I try to login as 'root' I get "Login incorrect" rather than a
password prompt.

I'd chalk this up to just l28's flakiness, but I see the same problem
with 'nox', which was imaged today (through the same SI v4.0.2-1 server)
from a totally different golden client & image.

I checked and 'root' looks fine in /etc/passwd & /etc/shadow. Has
anyone else seen this odd behavior?
