Dear SOCI Crowd,

Recently, the two database backends: ODBC and Firebird have been
orphaned and no development around those two has happened.

Apparently, there seem to be little need or interest in having ODBC or
Firebird support provided by SOCI package.

However, if there are C++ programmers using ODBC or Firebird and
if they would be interested in contributing to SOCI project, please
don't hesitate to help us in developing and maintaining those backends.

The Firebird package used to work well in the ages of SOCI 2.
The ODBC package has never been finished, so it's an alpha project.
Having ODBC backend, SOCI becomes an attractive solution for users
of databases like Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, IBM DB2,
Informix, and many more.

Currently, we are pursuing CMake build configuration to be ready
to release new version of SOCI. It would be wonderful if ODBC support is
there. It would also be great if Firebird backend can make it too.

By the way, we would like to encourage developers interested in
other databases to consider contributing new SOCI backends for other
database systems. To name a few, from traditional Ingres, DB2; through
file-based DBF, CSV; to NoSQL like MongoDB.

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,
