SSLiveSteam folks:

As I'm sure you all know, I took over as editor of Steam in the
Garden back in January. It's been a great 10 months working with many
of you to put together the print magazine and I hope those of you who
are subscribers have enjoyed what we've been doing.

Additionally, behind the scenes, I've been building out a new web
site for the magazine. We were able to convince Richard Finlayson to
give up his ownership of the domain name "steamup.com" (thank you
Richard!) and starting today, the new site is officially launched at
http://www.steamup.com/.

Steamup.com is the magazine on the web -- plus so much more. Here are
just a small number of features the new site includes:

*An e-edition of the magazine. For those overseas who have found the
cost of the magazine prohibitive -- or for those who don't need any
more paper in their homes -- there is now an electronic edition of
the magazine. The e-edition includes every page from the printed
magazine, displayed on your computer screen with "flipping book"
technology, which allows you to page through the magazine much like
you would a print publication and enlarge the pages to more than
twice normal size in order to read it. Subscribers who purchase the
digital plan have access to e-editions back to the May/June 2009
issue (No. 105).

*Our "web specials" feature brings you selected articles from back
issues of Steam in the Garden, back years and years. While there now
more than 20 articles available to read online, we expect to be
adding a couple of articles a month for the foreseeable future,
bringing back the "greatest hits" of Steam in the Garden from over
the years.

*Exclusive web-only content, including news articles about the latest
happenings in the small-scale live steam hobby and columns aimed at
helping you have more fun in the hobby.

*A "Timetable" feature that includes all the steamups and other
live-steam related events.

*The Swap Shop is back as an interactive feature. Registered users
can post locomotives and other railroad-related items for sale, and
include photos of their items too. When the item is sold, the user
can easily remove the ad, meaning the list on the site is always
current.

*An unsurpassed collection of small-scale live steam videos.
Hobbyists including Mike Martin, Jim McDavid, David Leech, Scott
McDonald, Charles Bednarik and many others have allowed us to post
their videos all together in one place, so that you can have an
afternoon or evening of watching little live-steam locomotives and
trains, from the world over.

*Our new forums -- a place where small-scale live steamers can gather
to ask questions, exchange information and just blow off some steam.

Of course there's so much more -- did I forget to include that you
can now buy back issues of the magazine online, seeing tables of
contents and cover photos? -- and we have plans to add more features
and content in the coming months and weeks.

Please take a few minutes to visit http://www.steamup.com/ and be
sure to register (only registered users can see the "web specials,"
and they are the only ones who can participate on the forums or use
the Swap Shop).

Please feel free to contact me directly about the site if you have
any comments, questions or concerns at dmc...@steamup.com.

Thanks.

PS: We also don't want to forget our sponsors -- Silver State Trains,
Triple R Services, Hartford Products, Aster Hobby USA, National
Summer Steamup, Accucraft Trains, Back on Track, MBV Schug and
Reindeer Pass Rail -- for helping us fund Steamup.com. Thanks to you
guys as well.
