A few years ago a version of the Stackless functionality was released for Mono.
http://www.bat.org/~tomba/monoco.html Apparently, it has been formalised into Mono as continuations now: http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2009/Apr-09.html In the preceding link, there's an archive linked which contains higher level primitives like tasklets, channels and similar objects. Also references to EVE and Second Life, and gaming use of things like these.
