The only ancient one, so far, is the Chinese symbol sent by Carl. This is the kind of thing my designer friend was looking for. I rather like the simple signs myself. The musical crescendo and diminuendo signs have the right kind of simplicity. I still feel surprised that astrologers didn't/don't have such symbols. This is a wonderful list!
