Hello, everyone Let me introduce the entities - on behalf of which I became to be an AALOA supporter - and myself.
Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OUAS) is one of the largest universities of applied sciences (former polytechnics) in Finland (approx. 9 000 students). Along with University of Oulu (classical university), it is located in the sixth largest Finnish city, which is sometimes called a Silicon Valley of Finland, Oulu. School of Engineering is the biggest institute of OUAS. It is located on two sites: Oulu Campus and Raahe Campus (former School of Computer Engineering, the oldest in Finland). Typical R&D projects conducted by School of Engineering of OUAS are in an area of electronics (including Printed Electronics), embedded solutions, networking (including Wireless Sensor Networks and, particularly, location technologies), mobile solutions, machine intelligence and services, and similar. Since the beginning of 2008 we added to our portfolio a number of home solutions in the Ubiquitous Computing domain. Particularly, we designed an ICT infrastructure to which we refer as Ubiquitous Home Environment (UHE) – a ubiquitous environment physically limited to living area plus surroundings. UHE has been accepted by a local real estate property company as an infrastructure for their Living Lab as well as for a new micro-district of modern block-flat buildings. During our last two projects, UbiAtHome and SPIN, we made an extensive survey on a large variety of technology platforms. Still, we decided to develop our own solution and succeeded in that target. The platform called UbiHOMESERVER is deployed at a local Living Lab and it forms the main system of its infrastructure. We continue to work on our platform in current projects (such as RYHTI) and those under preparation, and this is why we are very interested in results of the universAAL project, and the AAL Open Alliance activities. Pehr Brahe Center for Industrial and Services ICT (www.pbol.org) is a collaboration entity, funded by Oulu University of Applied Sciences, University of Oulu, and the city of Raahe. Both universities and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland joined some of their resources under this R&D unit. I’m employed by the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, and work at Pehr Brahe Center for Industrial and Services ICT as a Project Officer. For years my areas of interest were Java and Web technologies, software architectures, networking, mobile devices, services, and applications. Currently my main interest is in domains of Ubiquitous Computing and Home Automation, and I believe in a future of Semantic Web technologies. My main responsibilities are in technical management of on-going and preparation for new projects (technical aspects), including international.
