Hi!

Re ScanDisk and trashed disks:

Swedish computer specialist Ulf Lingärde who has written a
substantial manual on all varieties of DOS, called "Stora Guiden om
DOS", reports that ScanDisk, which comes in DOS-versions from 6.20
and up, has a very serious error in version 6.20, which can lead to
completely trashed hds.

This, he claims, is due to a bug in a Cirrus Logic-chip included in
some IDE-disk-controllers, like those which comes with Conner
CP3544, CFA340A and CFS210A. If you run ScanDisk, or PCTools'
Diskfix with DOS 5.0, 6.0, 6.1 or 6.20 *and* if VERIFY=ON your hd
will be erased. Never run 6.20 and older DOS-versions with
VERIFY=ON, he says.
