Did it ever actually suspend? Did the fan run at full? Did the CPU get very hot? How long did you wait to see what happened? You might want to take a look at: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8456 That's a bug report concerning the Satellite U200/U205 series. Maybe it affects yours as well.
