Hoagy did a great job of documenting the situation -- if only they could recognize the truth when they see it :-). Unfortunately, it's a matter of selective perception. Something that is too threatening to ones way of life, or just too uncomfortable for ones emotional state to bear, will HAVE to be dismissed regardless of any evidence presented.
Perhaps part of the answer is to present the inevitable readjustment as a GOOD thing to be welcomed rather than feared.
