As I said, few are willing to give up this nasty habit, and everyone
has a reason THEIR trips are justified. Nuclear power is another
example. Few realize, or care, that there are already over 100
nuclear power plants churning out waste in the US now, and the new
energy plan includes many more.

The good news is that a smart person has put up a website with a
nifty tool to calculate how much damage a jet aircraft trip will
cause: http://www.chooseclimate.org

The site also has a great story about a group's trip to Kyoto
called "Climate Train" I encourage everyone to take a look at.

As concerns the time savings, again grasping at straws to avoid
taking responsibility for our personal consumption. Which is more
valuable, YOUR time or OUR PLANET?

Here is an idea, maybe plan our trips to appreciate the enormous
cost that is actually involved. The heavy subsidy for jet aircraft I
mentioned didn't include the vast sums expended on military hardware
developed by the manufacturers. In fact, a lot of the technology
employed in civilian applications begins with military contracts to
lower the cost of R&D.

If even so-called environmentalists refuse to give up this highly
offensive addiction, how can we expect anyone to take us seriously?

In the end, as Todd pointed out so well, it is all about the
ECONOMY, and damn the environment if it gets in the way
of "progress".
