It would be nice to see BioButanol get a boost in the US since we cannot seem to get the same cars available elsewhere in the world. I would enjoy the little Opel diesel that I rented while in Barcelona... :-)

This tariff is effectively a subsidy for corn-based ethanol produced in the USA. Yet, producing ethanol from corn is highly inefficient and consumes 1 unit of energy for each 1.3 units of energy that burning ethanol provides. By contrast, ethanol derived from sugarcane (which is the sole source of ethanol in Brazil) yields 8.3 units of energy. Sugercane is about 7 times more efficient than corn. Some studies even show that corn yields only 0.8 unit of energy, resulting in a net loss of energy." ---------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Weaver" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <Biofuel@sustainablelists.org> Sent: Tuesday, May 09, 2006 10:37 PM Subject: [Biofuel] Interesting article on Slashdot > http://politics.slashdot.org/politics/06/05/09/0355211.shtml > > _______________________________________________ > Biofuel mailing list > Biofuel@sustainablelists.org > http://sustainablelists.org/mailman/listinfo/biofuel_sustainablelists.org > > Biofuel at Journey to Forever: > http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel.html > > Search the combined Biofuel and Biofuels-biz list archives (50,000 > messages): > http://www.mail-archive.com/biofuel@sustainablelists.org/ > _______________________________________________ Biofuel mailing list Biofuel@sustainablelists.org http://sustainablelists.org/mailman/listinfo/biofuel_sustainablelists.org Biofuel at Journey to Forever: http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel.html Search the combined Biofuel and Biofuels-biz list archives (50,000 messages): http://www.mail-archive.com/biofuel@sustainablelists.org/
