i have similar problems at home. there is a landfill not far from my motherinlaw's house and they have a decent gas collecting system, but they torch it all off at a big tower in the southern end of the facility. the 'fill is no longer used, but they could be selling electricity to the grid, which-in that area- is subject to blackouts and such during bad weather. its stupid for them to waste it...
