Oil spill health advisory remains in place for one West Vancouver beach
by Craig Takeuchi on May 8th, 2015 at 4:18 PM
With the gorgeous blue, sunny skies and warm weather, you might be
planning to head out to the beaches this weekend.
While health advisories due to the English Bay oil spill have been
lifted from Metro Vancouver's beaches, the one beach that still has a
health advisory warning is John Lawson Park in West Vancouver.
Signs advising beachgoers to avoid contact with water and wet sand,
which were initially posted on April 9, remain in place. The advisory
will be lifted when Vancouver Coastal Health receives acceptable results
from beach sand samples.
An advisory was lifted from Ambleside Park on April 28. However,
beachgoers are warned to keep an eye out for and avoid contact with any
remaining oil. Particles may wash up on shore over the next few weeks.
Any oil sightings on the foreshore should be reported to Emergency
Management BC by calling 1-800-663-3456.
