Have you tried openjdk? It is a part of Fedora 10. I find that it
works exactly as expected and I no longer mess with installs from Sun.
(Until we regain stability, I'm not recommending to try it, except
perhaps, as a last resort).

Please note that our use of Squid seems to mask partially the
failure of
tomcat - i.e. all appears normal until you move to a page not anymore
cached. At least this is my reading of the situation where some pages
are up and only on deeper digging things are falling over.
