The USFM marker \fm is described as "An additional footnote marker location for a previous footnote".
USFM 2.4 describes it as Footnote reference mark. Used where two or more locations in the scripture text should ideally refer the reader to the same footnote text (as seen in identical footnote text which is referred to at Gen 2.9 and Gen 2.17 in some English translations). The red box under it has this text: Because the nature of this marker is related directly to the published form of the text, it is not intended for use in scripture authoring. It may be used during the publishing process to connect two callers to the same footnote text. It's therefore unlikely to be seen in a set of USFM files for a Bible translation. Even so, as it is included in our OSIS converters, it prompts at least a further question: When converted from USFM to OSIS (by whatever means), does this require further special handling? How could this work in SWORD ?
