Whist having next to zero experience of libevent, I happened to attend a talk at FOSDEM which mentioned patches to support SSL which is used by Facebook to power their HipHop PHP system (i.e. it bypasses apache and just accepts connections directly). See here for the patch details: https://github.com/facebook/hiphop-php and the patch in question: https://github.com/facebook/hiphop-php/blob/master/src/third_party/libevent-1.4.14.fb-changes.diff Looking over it now a little, I'm not actually sure it's related to SSL after all, but rather a bit more about exposing the fd (thus perhaps helping to integrate it a bit easier) and also some async stuff which is also presumably a good thing. Anyway, just thought I'd share in case it's useful.
