Hi,

I have Apache 2.4.6-93 running on a CentOS 7.8.2003 that is not starting using Systemd.

If I do: /systemctl start httpd/, I get the following error:

    Nov 22 20:14:11 localhost systemd[1]: Failed to start The Apache
    HTTP Server.
    -- Subject: Unit httpd.service has failed
    -- Defined-By: systemd
    -- Support: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/systemd-devel

this is outdated for years and was always wrong

    -- Unit httpd.service has failed.
    --
    -- The result is failed.

However, running 'httpd -k start' works!

/usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service:

    [Unit]
    Description=The Apache HTTP Server
    After=network.target remote-fs.target nss-lookup.target
    Documentation=man:httpd(8)
    Documentation=man:apachectl(8)

    [Service]
    Type=notify
    EnvironmentFile=/etc/sysconfig/httpd
    ExecStart=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k start
    ExecReload=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k graceful
    ExecStop=/bin/kill -WINCH ${MAINPID}
    KillSignal=SIGCONT
    PrivateTmp=true

    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target

What could it be?
who knows - look at the httpd errorlog or at least "systemctl status httpd.service"

however, systemd is only the messenger
