FROM USATF:
2001 U.S. Indoor 200m champion Coby Miller has been diagnosed with a broken
fibula in his left leg. He will have surgery Monday night (March 5) to repair
the injury.
Miller suffered the injury immediately following his world-leading
performance at the Pontiac Grand Prix USA Track & Field Indoor Championships
in Atlanta on Saturday. He won the 200m in a meet-record time of 20.31, but
was clipped by third-place finisher Shawn Crawford, who fell at the finish
line, got entangled with runner-up Kevin Little, and then hit Miller.
Miller was taken to an Atlanta area hospital where his injury was
diagnosed. It will not be known how long Miller will need to recover until
after his surgery, but Miller's agent, Tony Campbell, expressed guarded
optimism due to the fibula being a non-weight-bearing bone.
