Enough said, indeed. And before the list becomes a volleyball game for all forms of jingoism, nationalism, and chauvinism, let me suggest that the list supervisors won't let this go very far.
We are in the most international of sports, and this list represents the diversity of opinions that an international sport commands. If you're so enamoured of a viewpoint shared by a very small number of nations on the world, perhaps you should be getting onto a list to discuss Major League Baseball, or Professional Bowling. It would require a far more significant crisis than the current whining over threatened a UN veto (ooh - if only the French had not voted against us, Saddam would have surrended for sure and saved us all this trouble!!!) or a few boos during the National Anthem before t-and-f should be used to organize boycotts and demonstrations which can only be seen as damaging to the sport. But feel free to use this as a reason to cheer on James Carter or Chris Rawlinson next time they face up against Stepane Diagana in the 400 IH. That's certainly how we relieved the tension during the much more serious international tensions over the Cold War... Phil Occassional List Supervisor, who hopes he speaks for the others... My hope is that everyone here boycotts the Worlds in Paris, in addition to any other French products, until Chirac and his socialist cronies get out of town... I'll enjoy watching the athletes on TV. BTW - I've also cancelled a trip to Montreal this summer, after hearing their fans boo the Star Spangled Banner at a Canadiens game. 'Nuff said. RH
