De Reuck, Hennessy headline USA Women's Marathon Championship

Three-time Olympian Colleen De Reuck and 2002 USA 25 km champion Jeanne
Hennessy headline the 30th USA Women's Marathon Championship Saturday in
St. Louis, Mo. Some of America's finest will have their first peek at
the St. Louis course, which will serve as host to the 2004 Olympic
Trials for the women's marathon.

De Reuck, 38, finished 8th at the World Cross Country Championships
March 29 in Lausanne, Switzerland, is a favorite in a strong field of 50
top U.S. distance runners. In 2002, De Reuck won an 8 km bronze medal
at the World Cross Country Championship and two U.S. road titles (7
miles and 20 km) and broke the U.S. 12 km record (38:53) at Lilac
Bloomsday. Her marathon personal record is 2 hours, 26 minutes, 35
seconds from the 1996 Berlin Marathon.

In 2002, the 25-year-old Hennessy won the 25 km national title at the
Fifth Third River Bank Run and set a personal record of 2:35:53 at the
LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon.

Other recent sub-2:40 marathoners and likely contenders in the field
include Kelly Keane (Manchester, NH), Beth Old (Douglasville, GA),
Stacie Alboucrek (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Katie Blackett (Boulder, CO),
Mary Coordt (Elk Grove, CA), Kelly Flathers (Huntington Beach, CA),
Marie Boyd (Albuquerque, NM) and Mimi Corcoran (Mendon, MA). Rising U.S.
star Sara Wells of Team USA Minnesota will make her marathon debut, and
she enters the competition with a half-marathon PR of 1:12:50 set last
December in Dallas.

The national championship prize purse is $50,000 that goes 10 deep
($15,000 first prize. Results will determine spots on Team USA's
marathon team for the 2003 World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in
Paris, France this August.

Abdirahman, Dan Browne, Robert Gary, Nick Rogers, Mark Croghan, Chad
Johnson, Ryan Shay, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Brian Sell and Clint Verran.

Along with the national championship, the competitors will vie for a
$20,000 prize money purse awarded to the top 15 finishers with the U.S.
champion taking home $5,000. There will be a $25,000 bonus offered to
the winner if he breaks the U.S. 8 km record of 22:04, set by Alberto
