The IAAF website is showing a mark of 8150 points for Marie Collonville, of
France, in winning the decathlon at the IAAF World Combined Events
Challenge, held in Talence last weekend (September 25-26). Since the IAAF
previously had announced that any score over 8000 would be ratified as an
initial world record for the new event, it can be expected that
Collonville's mark will be confirmed.

Her marks were:

100m 12.48, Discus 34.69m, Pole Vault 3.50m, Javelin 47.19, 400m 56.15,
100mH 13.96, Long Jump 6.18m, Shot Put 11.90m, High Jump 1.80m, 1500m
5:06.09.

In finishing second, Irina Naumenko, of Kazakhstan, scored 7798 points; the
third-highest total ever reported. The IAAF article notes the highest
previous total was 7845, set by Germany's Mona Steigauf in 1997.

Since the event has not been included in the IAAF Top List, it's difficult
to gain any perspective on these accomplishments. Obviously the marks of
Collonville, Naumenko, and Steigauf would be national records. Does anyone
know of other outstanding decathlon performances that would provide a
beginning to a table of national records?
