Here is an odd use for Open Street Map data... One man in the UK wanted to know "What are the most popular names for pubs in the United Kingdom?". Using Open Street Map data he could find that out and he explains how he did that here : http://blog.mongodb.org/post/56876800071/the-most-popular-pub-names .
