No one is arguing that information would be lost in this particular,
specific case.

But there is a difference between 1) encouraging consistency through
the usual channels (e.g. discussion, the wiki, tagwatch) but
ultimately giving the mapper the final choice and 2) making a paradigm
shift to a project that "allows" and "disallows" things.

It's the principle of the matter.
