Hi!
I've now had my Apple iMac for over a month and am enjoying it though
I've noticed some rather odd decisions on the part of Apple concerning
the hardware, the most obvious of these concerns the audio.
On the iMac the user has little choice when it comes to standard audio
inputs and outputs, you have just a headphone out which accomidates the
standard 3.5MM type stereo headphone jack along with the Apple versions
which supports a microphone on the headset - standard type of iPhone
headset configuration - so far so good.
So what's the point of apple even bothering with this arrangement on the
iMac at all when the later iPhone 7 series and above don't even have
compatible headset jacks? I thought Apple were trying to rid themselves
of the headset jack altogether.
It all seems very strange even more so considering that Headphone Amps
are a snap to purchase literally anywhere these days given their
popularity with mobile devices so why not just shove the headphones
socket and leave it to the user to plug one of these Headphone amps into
one of the USB ports, I would have thought that having a Headphone
socket on an iMac supporting headsets that Apple won't support on an
iPhone would only confuse consumers just that little bit more.
Anyway only my take on it and I'm very glad that I still have my Mac
Mini with the dedicated Audio Digital-Analogue In/Out.
The speakers on the iMac sound sensational though I've heard a little
better from an All-In-One device, a friend of mine has a Dell Windows
version of an iMac where the speakers do sound a little more natural.
