As one of the dozen or so, I'd like to add a few notes to this exchange:
The reporter, WEWS Channel Five's Karin Winters, came up and asked us, "So, are you for or against the war?"
I said, "Neither, I am for Peace."
She looked at me like I had grown a second head. "But are you for or against the war?"
I said "I am for peace." She said, "That's not what I'm looking for."
A man behind me -- from IndyMedia, can't remember his name -- says, "I'm against the war!"
She zooms in on him like a hawk. "So, would you say that you're deeply committed to this opinion?"
I look at her now as if she has grown a new head. It's raining. It's miserably cold. It's very windy, so windy we can't light the candles for our vigil.
I say, "Well, of course we're committed. You'd have to be committed to be out in weather like this."
She says "That's sarcastic. I don't need that. I've had a long hard day. I'm not talking to you anymore."
She proceeds to let the IndyMedia guy rant for five minutes about the evils of our government, and then I overheard her complain quietly to her cameraman about being cold and wet and that she hated being sent out to cover "something stupid like this."
Oh well. I felt good about being out there. And too bad for getting wet and cold, Karin. If you had a soul maybe you'd have felt different.

I was one of the peaceful protesters from last night's vigil at the Peace
Arch on Coventry who was featured on Channel 5 (ABC) this morning (3-20) on
Good Morning Cleveland (the really early one from 5-7 a.m.). I was
interviewed and gave a thoughtful, levelheaded interview but it was not
aired. I was only featured holding a sign that read PEACE. Of the two
interviewees chosen, one animatedly gave a list of bad things that were going
to happen in Iraq like starvation, etc. and another said she feared Saddam
would bomb the US. Me, I said things like, "I wasn't surprised he attacked
Iraq, only that he didn't do it sooner, considering he had this planned for
some time," and "we are out here because we disagree with some of the
decisions being made by this administration..." stuff like that. So even
though the others were intelligent remarks, they chose the more emotional
responses to air.
We only got a dozen or so thoughtful and brave protesters out there in the
rain, wind and the dark, so I'm glad they chose to air it at all.
Just my two cents,

PS What other coverage did you all see on this afternoon's rally at Public
Square?

"Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone
who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he
will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once
the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of
unforeseeable and uncontrollable events." - Winston Churchill
