Those interested in participating in some late-night guerilla art inviting Clevelanders to "Invade" the city of "Baghdad" are invited to join us on Wednesday, April 2 at 10pm at the University Circle Arabica on Magnolia Drive on the CWRU campus. Please bring a heavy duty staple gun and Duct Tape (or heavy gaffer-style tape) with you.
Yesterday we posted six signs on various major inbound roads that said
Welcome To Baghdad!
Population 6,000,000 (3,000,000+ under age 15)
Tonight, we will add the slogan
Invasion Tomorrow!
On Wednesday night, we plan to put up nearly 300 signs on the inbound lanes -- 50 per location -- that simply say
Invade!
On the outbound lanes, we'll put signs that say
Now Leaving Baghdad!
Invade again soon!
followed by many many signs with pictures of smiling happy Iraqi children that say
Victim
Those of you on my list that reside outside of the Cleveland area are strongly encouraged to do this same sort of project in your local area. Most Americans are trying to avoid thinking about the war in Iraq, and our media is doing everything it can to sanitize what's happening over there by using generic nondescript terms like collateral damage and "victims of the regime." An analyst said today that Iraqi people monitoring US news reports have been disturbed to see that US reporters say warm messages to the families of fallen US troops, but no words for the families of Iraqi casualties. The action we are performing tomorrow is to remind Clevelanders that children are the biggest casualties of war. I can't do this alone. I need your help. Please join us.
