I do mostly digital stuff and 80% of my resistor usage is 10K, maybe 10% 1K,
a couple of other values are 9%, random values make up the remaining 1%.

For caps I use 0.47uF 0805's most of the time and 10uF (can't remember the
size). Why 0.47 uF you may ask? Well, I thought I was buying a reel of 3000
pieces for $10. Didn't read the fine print in the auction, which was for 10
reels. Also got 30,000 2N700x transistors tossed in. Other cap sizes I use
are 0.01uF and 0.1 uF (geezers HATE nanofarads). Another $20 auction got me 50
sealed 1000 pc reels of various Philips and Osram LEDs. Another $20 auction
got me 200+ partial reels of various caps (including tantalums), diodes,
resistors, inductors, etc. A little Ebay surfing can land you silly amounts of
parts for the cost of a burger and fries. Big lots of partial reels left over
from a manufacturing run can be really good deals. The only SMD parts I've had
to buy from distribution in ages are IC's.
