Although Psychology purports to be the scientific study of behavior and
mental processes,it would seem to be more of the psychology of whites
than other cultures.As a matter of fact the psychology that is taught
in the West today are ideas and formulations derived from Europeans and
Neo- Europeans and tell us more about the underpinnings of Western
capitalistic-imperialistic culture. The founders of modern experimental
psychology emanated fron Europe with ideas specific to that culture.
And attempts to find parallels in other cultures have flopped.
Piaget (who only had one tooth) worked with bourgeois middle class kids in
Switzerland to discover a developmental mode. The principle of
conservation may not apply to African children who may mold clay in all
shapes and sizes without the feeling that something has disappeared.
David McClelland tried to apply achievement motivation principles in India
and it did not work.
And there are countless examples that the Eurogenic penchant for
evidence,reliability,validlty are forms of cognitive modes unique to
Western attitudes of a socio-cognitive manifest desting idea.
What Western psyhology fails to take into account that most people
based their philosophy on feelings which can override thinking when it
comes to a plan of action-it may not be the truth but it is a FACT.
