I say it was likely because the newspaper business is in flux and changes in the paywall systems have changed fairly regularly within specific newspapers. Obviously, I defer to your knowledge as a subscriber to the Times and Sunday Times. I speak from experience with some US newspapers.
But, rather than nit pick over these details, what do you think about Monbiot's larger point about the rentier capitalism operation of academic publishers?
