Causes of Transverse Myelopathy and Myelitis Transverse myelitis may occur in isolation or in the setting of another illness. When it occurs without apparent underlying cause, it is referred to as idiopathic. Idiopathic transverse myelitis is assumed to be a result of abnormal activation of the immune system against the spinal cord. http://www.myelitis.org/tm.htm So we're hit with Transverse Myelitis, but we're left with Transverse Myelopathy. Do we currently have TM or we had it when we first became ill? Is it like Polio? It came, crippled and you no longer have Polio, but you do have the destruction that it left behind. Thanks for your help in explaining this to me. Carol Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles; It empties today of its strengths.
