Using the standard scripts, you would pass the options via the TOMCAT_OPTS environment variable. The actual options depends on the JVM vendor, but for the Sun JVM you would do something like: TOMCAT_OPTS="-Xms128M -Xmx512M"
Tomcat just uses the default values for the JVM.
