Yes it exists a realy good way to got controlled Threadumps. Install your Tomcat with "Java Service Wrapper" and
activate the Wrapper JMX Bean with a operation to create a threaddump and reload the
complete server.

I understand how to do so when Tomcat is run in a console window (cntl-break), but in this case it has to be run as a service.
