Steffen, the problem appears using both IE and Firefox.
My firefox browsers (on the tomcat host (xp pro) and a linux host are both set to 'use cookies - normally'.
I did a search of my tomcat installation for the word cookie, but that did not find any obvious
configuration of cookies, so I assume I'm running the default.
I tried allowing my browser to accept cookies from explicitly localhost:8090 (my tomcat server) , but it made no difference.
I have not yet found where in the tomcat documentation, session definition, cookies, etc. are discussed
