Two things I would check are the actual filesystem that the JSP sits on and your memory usage. There might not be enough space for the compiled JSP on the filesystem or you might have exausted all of your memory (both physical and paging). I admit, the last one is a but far fetched as I bet you would know if your system was paging that much. Oh, another thought just came to me, you could also be running out of semaphores or thread space. All of this is, of course, off the hip....
