Another way to do this is to create a new directory containing: conf, webapps, work and temp directories. Customise the server.xml in this new conf directory to use the port that you want. Before you start tomcat set a variable called CATALINA_BASE to point to this new directory. When you run startup or shutdown they will refer to this instance of tomcat.
