A distinction between a programming contest and CoreWars needs to be 
made.  Don is talking about CoreWars - nitty gritty computer (nerd) 
prowess.  I understand others to be talking about a 'programming 
competition', a la http://www.topcoder.com/  (which, incidently, I think 
is pretty cool).

PS - I also happen to like the idea of CoreWars a lot.  Just to keep 
from having an actual preference
