It's not so much about doable as it is about convenient. I know a
couple ways to work around the issue, but they all have drawbacks
bigger than the inconvenience of search/replacing color values. You
asked for a scenario where you'd want to do templated CSS or JS and I
gave an example along with a tool ([1] though I didn't link it the
first time) that designers actually use.
